Civil War was a four year long war which consisted of the Union
(with states such as Maine, New York, New Hampshire, Vermont, and
others) and the Confederacy (which consisted of states such as
Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, and others).
This war lasted between the twelfth of April, 1861 and the ninth of
May, 1865. Estimated death count throughout the entirety of the war
is estimated between sixty-five thousand and eighty-five thousand.

and fathers fighting one another in the brutal and heart wrenching

Many stories depict what life was like in battle for the soldiers and militia fighting, yet very few actually explain what it was like for the unlikely heroes. They felt as if they were important, as if they finally held some amount of power, and yet at the same time they didnt because they still werent equal with males at that time. This sparked a movement which would last over a century until women would finally get what they were fighting for. This just shows that maybe women didnt ever have a specific role in the American Civil War. Sure, they were supposed to be the mothers, the sisters, the wives, and yet so many women went beyond what others wanted them to be. They became fighters. They became soldiers. They became nurses. They became spies. They became smugglers.
