Running head: ORGANIC LAB REPORT1Lab ReportNameCourseUniversityProfessorDateORGANIC LAB REPORT2IntroductionThe experiment focused on separating, isolating and characterizing two compounds of theacid-neutral or base-neutral mixture. The experiment was subdivided in to two parts: - Part A andPart B. To achieve the experimental objective the following reagents and possible unknowns wereused: - 1 M sodium hydroxide, I M hydrochloric acid, 6 M sodium hydroxide and 6 M hydrochloricacid. Among the possible unknowns comprised of: - Benzoic acid, acetanilide, phenacetin, methoxy benzoic acid, chlorobenzoic acid and 1,4-dimethoxybenzene. The following three baseswere used; para-toluidine, 4-chloroaniline and ethyl 4-aminobenzoate.ProcedurePart A: Separating the unknown carboxylic acid from the unknown neutral compoundAbout 2 g of the assigned unknown compound was weighed and recorded. The sampleweighed was recorded to differentiate from other unknowns. The actual weight of the unknownsample was also recorded as stated in the lab notebook. The weighed unknown sample was thentransferred inside a 125 mL Erlenmeyer flask before adding approximately 50 mL of ethyl-acetate.The solution was swirled to dissolve all the solids. The second step involved washing the solution formed using an aqueous base. The solutionformed was transferred in to a 125 mL funnel. The stopper was ensured to be fully closed. Thesolution was then washed 2*20 mL using an aqueous 1 M sodiu ...
