The most interesting thing I learned from this documentary is that our brains have a map of our body surface. According to Dr. Ramachandran, the body map has a corresponding point to every point on the body surface. The right side of our body is mapped on the left side of our brain and the left side of our body is mapped on the right side of the brain. The phantom limb syndrome gives amputees the ability to feel sensations and pain of a missing limb that no longer exists. After an amputation, sensory pathways in the brain are restructured and sensory signals are being misinterpreted.
