Imagine a world
without homework. Wouldnt it be great? Unfortunately, far too many
students get homework every night. Recent research even suggests
that some students are getting excessive amounts of homework. One
study found that kids in early elementary school received about
three times the amount of recommended
homework.
Homework should be eliminated because it can negatively impact
mental
healthand because it can limit students time with
familyand
activities.
Its all too apparent that homework must be cut since it can
adversely influence the mental well-being of students. According to
the article Stanford Research Shows Pitfalls of Homework by
Clifton B. Parker, 89% of students reported homework was a
stressor. 56% of students considered homework as a primary source
of anxiety. It is clear that homework is causing worry for most
students. This was proven In the piece Homework vs. Sleep: A Cause
of Stress in Teens (And Younger Kids) by Craig Canapari MD. in
this article it was reported about 15% of juniors and seniors had
more than two hours of homework per night. Canapari also pointed to
a study that found 90% of teenagers are not getting enough sleep
because they have too much homework. This is significant because
teenagers need sleep for their growth and development.

As explained by
Ponte, homework is a great way for parents to see what their kids
are doing in school. Although it brings parents and their kids
together it could actually separate them. Ponte continues to say,
when teachers signed a lot of homework may not be equitable. Not
all parents are able to provide enough time and attention to help
their children with homework, and/or an environment conducive to
completing it. Less wealthy parents may work more than one job.
Single mothers may have divided attention, also some parents may
not even speak
