Throughout your
teaching career, there comes a point when two teachers must work
together to teach a lesson. Ms. Benassuer and I had the opportunity
to create a co-teaching lesson plan using the station teaching
model. Ms. Benassuer and myself chose signs and symptoms of verbal
and nonverbal communication in autism as our focus for the lesson.
My current profession and my future goal of becoming a teacher for
students with special needs is what inspired me to create a lesson
on autism.
Creating a co-teaching lesson plan with Ameera Benassuer has
been a great experience.
We worked collaboratively to create a lesson plan to bring

Benassuer and
myself the opportunity to provide instruction to a smaller group of
students and allows the students to rotate from one station to the
next to learn new information. In addition, this model allows Ms.
Benassuer and myself an opportunity to work closely with each
student and provide assistance in areas of weakness. Another
beneficial factor that station teaching offers Ms. Benassuer and
myself, is the opportunity to provide different instruction
simultaneously. Ms. Benassuer and I are focusing on the signs and

program. Ive learned so much valuable information about the signs
and symptoms of verbal and nonverbal communication in autism. This
topic is extremely important to me because my goal is to be an
elementary
schoolteacher
working as a special
educationteacher. Ive watched students make tremendous
progress over the course of the year and it is extremely exciting
to see and hear about their achievements. I believe special need
students need teachers who are willing to take the time to repeat
the same action or lesson over and over and
