In Mary
Wollstonecrafts A Vindication of the Rights of Woman she argues
the fact that women should be treated equally to men. Women were
not seen as anything more than a slave and to do as the men said.
Women who spoke up and refused to be treated unequally where seen
as masculine and were looked down upon. Wollstonecraft states,
if
women are to be excluded, without having a voice, from a
participation of the natural rights of mankind,
they want reason
-else this flaw
will ever shew that men must, in some shape, act
like a tyrant
meaning that if women are not allowed to have a
voice then give them an explanation why and allow the men to act
like dictators. Wollstonecraft stressed that women who would not
speak up, even if they were referred to as masculine, then they
were allowing the men to
show more content
Wollstonecraft
goes on to say,
to prove my assertion, that women cannot, by
force, be confined to domestic concerns; for they will, however
ignorant, intermeddle with more weighty affairs, neglecting private
duties only to disturb, by cunning tricks, the orderly plans of
reason which rise above their comprehension. Making the point that
women cannot be confined in their homes all day or they will crave
an outside source of attention that will result in acting out in a
negative way, because of their lack of intelligence. Wollstonecraft
was trying to promote motivation for women to get an education to
help provide the same for their children. This would allow the
women to be more independent and be able to provide for themselves
if necessary. It seemed as if the educational and political
theorist were hard to persuade by her opinions on the matter,
because they were so closed
