Every single
decision made, every threat everyone caused, added up to a war that
led to the death of millions and millions of people. A tragedy that
everyone could have stopped by letting go. What were the causes of
the First World War? The First World War was completely caused by
nationalism. Nationalism is loving and believing your country is
the greatest on Earth. For example, Britain believed that they were
the best with the best industry and economy. The British Empire
controlled a quarter of the world in 1900 and was the most powerful
country in the world for 2 centuries. They have a strong navy that
add on to their confidence. Even on the popular patriotic song,
Rule, Britannia! It stated that Britons will never be slaves. As

Germany had
wanted a place in the sun this meant that they wanted to gain
more power by creating a bigger Empire. Germany then came up with a
plan by taking over Morocco. But, France taken over all the other
places in Africa that surrounds Morocco, so France wasnt happy
about it as they wanted to conquer it completely and make it part
of their Empire. Morocco couldve stayed strong and not let France
or Germany to take over them. But no, Morocco was weak for too many
years that they didnt have the power to be by themselves. The
leader of Germany, Kaiser, told the French that they promised
Morocco that they can stay free and independent which made France
very angry. So, both threatened war. Britain, Russia and France as
an alliance, Britain and Russia supported France by putting a huge
navy ship outside Algeciras harbour in Morocco. So that the Germans
had to promise to stay out of Morocco. All of these threats and
competing for Morocco add on to the tension and pressure for all
the countries. When all the countries wants to compete against each
other, war would happen. Especially there are alliances between
countries which worsen the situation because countries would help
each other to fight other ones. For a tiny continent, all the
countries now started fighting over it, was it even normal? Another
example, would be the Second Moroccan Crisis which happened in
1911. This time, The French started to want to control over Morocco
again. Germany responded by sending a gun boat called The Panther
to just sit at the coast outside Morocco. Although they didnt
attack, but its a clear threat. Moreover, Britain felt that they
should support the French so they also sent ships to wait on the
coast. Suddenly the German banks and stocked markets started to
collapse, Kaiser said that the French were those to blame which
triggered the French and the British. Afterwards, at a conference,
the British Prime Minister Lloyd George warned Germany to
stop
