For my cultural
encounter, I attended the Des Moines Art Center. It was the first
art center that I had ever been to before so I wasnt sure what to
expect from it. Going to an art center didnt seem like the most
entertaining experience for me, but I didnt mind going to this
one. When I first entered the building, I was greeted at the door
and given a flyer and a map of the art Center. The first room I
entered was called the Changing exhibitions. It was a very low
lit and dark room and was very quiet. The first object I saw was
what looked like a woodchip inside a glass case. The first
thingI
thoughtafter
seeing this was how could a small woodchip like this be displayed
in a fancy art center. I continued on through the rooms, examining
the many paints and drawings. Most of the paints seemed to be oil
paintings of some sort. The paintings varied sizes from just little
paintings to giant paintings that covered a whole wall.
Unfortunately, I was unable to go to the outside part of the center
due to the weather, but from what I saw out the windows it all
looked very colorful. I also found it interesting that there were
security people in every room that were constantly watching you so
you didnt try to touch or take any of the paintings that were
being displayed. I never realized how serious some of this artwork
was and how much some of the paintings were worth. While I was
walking through, there was a little café where you could
show more content
It caught my
eye the most because it had a bright yellow color and then it had
small black dots on it as well that made it even more interesting
to look at. Just by looking at it, it seemed like something that I
could have drawn, but knowing me I would have never created
anything like this. It was so simple yet it was such a huge
paintingthat
it took up almost all of the wall that it was hung
