Often times
when books are translated to movies, the movie loses the
fundamental components of the original work. In the book version of
Persepolis, much of what the reader could learn about Marji and the
growth of a child to an adolescent was lost in the film. Instead,
the film version focused a lot more on the Iranian history.

character interactions, those that further Marjis understanding of
the current situation. For instance, her maid, Mehris relationship
with the their neighbors son reflected on the issues of
differences in social classes. As Marji

Because there
were more limitations to a film, including time, the director often
had to cut character development out to get the story across. The
film simply just narrated through Marjis childhood, putting most
of the understanding of the characters up for viewers
interpretation. Although, both works gave their audiences different
understandings of the plot, however, many of its elements were kept
the same. As the book already had illustrations, most of the panels
found in the book were present in the film. The order in which
events occurred, the exchanges in dialogues, and characters were
also kept the same. When translating work from a book to a film, it
is often guaranteed that there would be differences in work.
Especially with the contrasting methods in storytelling, not all
features in each work will correspond perfectly. For example,
movies have music, movement in scenes, and characters tone, while
books are limited to just words. Therefore, when reading or viewing
the works, the audience should acknowledge that there will also be
a slight
