I followed my
resource cooperating teachers schedule this week. The only
mentionable changes were on the E day schedule. I spent half day in
the 5th grade Language Arts Literacy/Reading classroom, as
mentioned in last weeks journal. Mrs. Fodi is a veteran reading
teacher and is the only reading teacher in the 5th grade. It is
evident that she is knowledgeable in the content of
Reading. She
was very accommodating and made me feel comfortable in her
classroom, as well as in her presence. She took the time to provide
explanations and divulge valued academic expertise. One notable
observation was that the
schoolinvested
significant resources into providing students with phenomenal
quality reading materials and award winning novels.
The current novel been explored is Number in The Stars by
Lois Lowry. Before that, it was Forty Acres and Maybe a Mule by
Harriette Gillem Robinet. Im curious as to the next novel the
students will read, but first I must complete reading the Number in
The Stars. I am a fan of the author. Ive read several of her
books, which includes The Giver, Gathering Blue, Messenger and
Son. I was contemplating to read the Number in The Stars but my
student teaching assignment began and I instead read two other
books- Allegiant by Veronica Roth and Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey.

On Thursday, March 3rd , I accompanied Mrs. Fodis and Mrs.
Chichesters students on a walking trip from school 9 to Passaic
County Community College. To remain consistent with the theme of
the novel the students were reading, the children saw a play about
the effects of German World War 2 on families, and the negation of
tolerance and acceptance which fueled the war.
I enjoyed the day, most of all the children learned from
their experiences and enjoyed their day as
