Avanti
Orientation Team The Avanti Orientation Team is a student service
organization that was first founded on campus in 1975 in order to
help assist the new students at the University of Alabama. Each
member is well acquainted with the university in the academic
programs and in the co-curricular opportunities in order to help
and to provide support in the many challenges of enrolment and to
also help in the welcoming of
high
schoolgroups to the campus for recruitment events. They got
their name from the Italian word Avanti, which means forward, or

The process
starts with a group interview and once they make it past that round
they have an individual interview. The, once the members are
chosen, in order for them to be able to assist in orientation at
the university during the summer, the members must complete all of
the training that takes place throughout the year. The members meet
once a week for training on Thursdays for two hours. During this
time they do many different activities to help them bond as a team
and to go over important information that is needed in order to
help assist the incoming students during the summer orientation.
The team must also attend SROW, which stands for the Southeast
Regional Orientation Workshop, which goes on the first weekend
during spring break at East Carolina University in order to help
them complete their training. When choosing members for the Avanti
Orientation Team, it is really important that the members show

Many students
apply ever year, but only a small amount are chosen as members
compared to the amount of students who apply. When selecting
members, these Avanti leaders need to show characteristics of
obedience. Training is a key part of being a member of this
organization, and all of the training requirements must be met in
order for the members to assist in orientation. These members are
seen as being leaders on campus to the incoming students and have
to understand the responsibility that comes from being a leader.
They create bonds with these incoming students and have to learn
through their training how to be obedient towards this
responsibility they have as a leader on campus. These members also
need to show respect towards the authority figures that are in the
organization and to take into account the knowledge they have from
their previous years as members. Orientation is such a big part of
becoming a student at the University of Alabama so it is important
that there are Avanti leaders that help represent the campus in a
