Claim:
Cavendish grants her luminary- the Empress- multiple notably important roles in order to establish feminine insights in a male-minded and dominated society of 1666- one that usually discredits or undervalues the voice of women with scientific insights simply because of their gender. Cavendish does this in order to discontinue sexism through creating a new world led by a women.

Throughout the poem, it seems as though Lanyer is building a case to defend women- who’re to blame because Eve ate forbidden fruit in the garden. She argues that men [Adam] shouldn’t be exempt from fault. This may very well be true; however, it seems as though the serpentis playing a larger role than granted in the poem. Lanyer asserts “The subtle serpent that our sex betrayed/ Before our fall so sure a plot had laid” (Lanyer, 23-4). In other words, the fall of man was in the serpent’s plan all along.
