Discussion Question #1:
The states of the Upper South waiting before seceding from the Union I believe was because they wanted to wait to see if issues could be resolved without violence. They wanted a solution that was good for everyone before the war broke out as well as they did not want to fight with the boarding states that they neighbor to.
Discussion Question #2:
President Abraham Lincoln was having troubles with his generals for different reasons The reason that is mostly highlighted is that his Generals of the Army were not very well equipped, they had meager training that would come to light as well as the training they did have was meteor and this caused many issues in training other soldiers and preparing them for war. This was also the cause of the war going longer then suspected by Abraham Lincoln. The reason that the South was not able to gain support from foreign powers was partly because of the slave beliefs and they still had a strong background and support for slavery as others were moving away from this concept.
