One September
22, 1862, the president of the Union, Abraham Lincoln, proposed the
Emancipation Proclamation to his cabinet. If I was one of his
advisors I would have encouraged Lincoln to propose this
Emancipation because it is a necessity to pass it in order to
preserve the Union. Through threatening the Souths life style,
this will help define the Unions perception and position of the
war: freeing the slaves and preserving the union. This also makes
it seem that the North is fighting for a significant moral and
human cause. I would have also recommended that because this would
have been a good war strategy. By emancipating all the slaves in
the rebellion states, this would have crippled the Confederate
army. The south army depended on slaves to aid in war efforts.

Also, it would
impact their economy because if slaves were able to escape, their
economy would decrease because less slaves are working on the
cotton and agricultural fields. The Proclamation also impacted
foreign powers involvement in the Civil War; for example, Great
Britain, who first considered to support the Confederacy for its
cotton economy. However, the Proclamation turned the scale because
Great Britain, a potential ally of the Confederacy, did not believe
in
slaveryand
ought to support Lincolns decision of emancipating and liberating
the slaves. The Emancipation would have been an excellent political
move from Lincoln in keeping foreign nations from aiding the
Confederacy or becoming involved in the Civil War at all.
Therefore, I would have recommended that Lincoln take the
Emancipation Proclamationinto effect because it would define
the Unions perceptions and stands on the war, it would have
crippled the Souths economy and war efforts, and influenced
foreign involvement in the
