Is killing ever
good? In The Giver, a novel by author Lois Lowry, the community
uses euthanasia for what they called release. The book is about
Jonas, a 12-year-old boy who is assigned to be the receiver of
memories. Through his training, he realizes that Release was used
for new children, seniors, and as punishment. Jonas later learned
what release really meant. Jonas didnt like the idea of
euthanasia. He wanted to change the rule for release but he knew
that, that wouldnt work. Jonas wanted to change the way of his
community but knew he couldnt. For me killing is never good and
never will be good.

If there are mirror image twins, the weakest one will have to be
released. Jonas asked The Giver that he wished to see his father
release the new child. The Giver than turned on the speaker and
said I would like to see this mornings release (p.149). When the
screen turned on Jonas stood there in silence and watched, as it
ended Jonas thought He killed it! My father killed it! (p. 150).

People who
break the rules 3 times get euthanasia. Every person in the
community gets 3 chances for breaking rules, and if they use all
their chances then the people are forced to release him/ her.
Needless to say, he will be released (p. 2). In The Giver, a
novel by author Lois Lowry, there was a pilot who flew across the
community which scared all of the people and was to be released
that day. In our present day society people dont get sentenced to
be killed for a crime. People get chances if they broke a law. They
either get a ticket as a warning, or they have to attend their
court, and maybe proven innocent or guilty which they would go to
jail, or prison. This is not compassionate because people deserve
more than 3 chance for life, instead of instant killing people
after their 3 chance are
