the Cultures Revisited Reflection
Preschools in the Cultures Revisited is an informative film by Joseph Tobin that examines the teaching styles of instructors from three different countries, and later has them evaluated by teachers from other regions. The three countries that the video focused on were China, Japan, and the United States. Although there were several similarities among the teaching styles of these countries, there were several notable differences that made each learning experience unique.
The first country examined was China. The day began with a wellness check up by school nurses, by which they checked the students for any illnesses. If the students were healthy, they were allowed entrance. The day then continued like any other preschool day, with plenty show more content
When I was in preschool, I also had a period of choice time, morning meeting, snack, and outdoor play. I think this schedule is practical and effective, as it provides students with a structured routine, as well as giving them the opportunity to play freely. I also think the idea of forming bonds with students and their parents is also extremely important. In regards to the supervision of the children, I believe it is necessary for safety, but teachers should not interfere with students games. Watching this video was interesting, as it changed the way I viewed early childhood educationin other countries. I had always assumed that all childrens preschool experiences were similar, and while they are to a certain extent, they also vary greatly. All of these unique preschool curricula incorporated something valuable that should be considered when creating one's own curriculum. As a future early childhood educator, I will make a point to borrow some strategies from other preschool systems that I deem valuable to the development of young
