The themes of
All Summer In A Day and If Only We Had Taller Been are as
different as the plots of the two stories. Although on the surface
a story about a bunch of children wanting to see the sun, and
another about a persons desire to touch the sky, would seem like
they have nothing in common, if one looks at their themes its
incredibly easy to see that both of Ray Bradburys stories have
more in common than in contrast. The theme of All Summer In A
Day, when someone is overcome with jealousy, their actions are
completely dictated by it, shows how the desire to see the sun had
a negative impact on the characters. The theme of If Only We Had
Taller Been, humanity is never fully satisfied with the status quo
and is always striving to do more, shows how the desire for more
has a positive impact on the characters. This would be considered
as a difference, but both stories still contain the desire for
more.

But, there is
not a similitude for how one achieves more. The want is the only
part of the desire for more that stays constant, whereas the
emotions and feelings that fuels one for more varies. In Ray
Bradburys All Summer In A Day and If Only We Had Taller Been,
the characters fuel for more is extremely different, but the want
is always present in both stories. In All Summer In A Day, the
children want more than anything to see the sun because of their
jealousy towards Margot. Likewise, In If Only We Had Taller Been
the narrator wants more than anything to touch the sky. Again, the
characters are fueled very differently, as in All Summer In A Day
the characters are fueled by jealousy and in If Only We Had Taller
Been the narrator is solely fueled by his striving for more.
However, the characters want for what they crave is
