When traveling
East down State street, you will come across Bristols famous sign,
BRISTOL; A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE with bright lights and arrows to
point you to Tennessee and Virginia. The sign happens to sit right
on the state line dividing Bristol, VA and Bristol, TN. Little do
people living outside of Bristol know, is that this great city has
a vast history of business,
music, art,
racing, and food, of course.
What most people come here for is for the extremely popular
Bristol Motor Speedway. It has been around since the 50s, when car
racing and drag racing were popular for family and friends to get
together and watch. Though, the speedway didnt go by Bristol
Motor Speedway at the time, but it went by the name of Bristol

The well-known
Burger Bar has been around since 1942, when it first opened, and
has since then brought visitors into town for a taste of their
juicy burgers and milkshakes. A man called Hank Williams, who was a
country singer and song writer, was reportedly last seen having a
meal at Burger Bar before he died. Burger Bar has named most of
their burgers after country music songs and artists, such as the
Hey Good Looking which is named after Hank Williams song from
1951. Just recently as of 2008, a new bakery has opened in downtown
Bristol called Blackbird Bakery, and takes place on Virginia side
serving customers from Abingdon to Johnson City. They are mainly
known for their doughnuts, but you can get other delicious pastries
and coffee to enjoy with friends. Since then additional restaurants
have moved their way into Bristol, adding more variety to the
diverse pallets our community contains. Quaker Steak and Lube and
Macados are two of the additions to the Bristol, VA, TN dining

The future of Bristol looks very bright. We as a community
have made strives and ongoing efforts to revitalize our downtown to
remind the younger generations of the history of our great culture
here in east TN and southwest VA. Our community is compiled of many
diversities, but has the cohesiveness of our
ancestors
