This week as an
intern at Cleveland Head Start Center One in Cleveland,
Mississippi, I was given my first opportunity to start building a
working relationship with several clients. During the approach of
the interview, there were several questions to ask as I started to
complete the Family Partnership Agreement assessment. The purpose
of this interview was to establish a relationship with the parent.
I noticed when the social worker introduces the clients to me they
were a little hesitant. I ensured the client that I was only there
to help and that this section was totally confidential. Throughout
our section, I was able to ask a question and to provide clarity if
needed.
As an intern
student, I
learn about my client current living situation and people who they
felt was their support. At this moment I gave the client my
undivided attention. As the interview continued, I learn more about
their needs and goals. One of my client needs was to seek
employment which was also an opportunity for improvement. Another
need that my client shared was her willingness to go back to
school. I
encouraged the client to follow her dream.

The client
replied that she was having trouble completing an application for
the job. I contacted the WIN Job Center for information. I received
a little information, but not enough to report back to the client.
However, these steps were taken to build rapport with my clients.
Most of the clients I have interviewed have had similar
concerns. Some of the client that stated something about going
back to school the social worker issued a pamphlet. In the
pamphlet, there was information referring to Delta Educational
Opportunity Center a program at Delta State University. The
pamphlet also listed what the program about in contact information
if they so find it interesting to their particular
