Socialization Important? Socialization is an essential process in
life. Socialization demonstrates how completely connected
individuals are to their social environment. It allows us to
interact, learn from one another and recognize social norms. Social
interactions are a contributing aspect in socialization and its
process. It teaches us basic material and non- material norms,
language to communicate with each other and the ability to see
ourselves through the eyes of others. Also, we learn who we are and
how we fit in society today. Why Sociologist Believe Socialization
Develops Across the Life Course Sociologist had concluded that
socialization is a process that is long term. Socialization
developed through important milestones in an individuals life,
mostly determined by age norms and time related rules and
regulations. Moments such as: graduating high school, getting
married, having a child are examples of special moments that marks
us developing in society. Milestones that I have passed in my life
would be graduating high school and starting college. Moments, like
those are very emotion therefore, family support was essential.

The different
agents consist of family and peer groups. Socializing agents are
more personal to an individual and consist of an informal approach.
For instance, a family is the first agent of socialization because
many social factors affect the way a family raises a child.
However, Institutional agents consists of formal institutions and
media. Formal institutions are places such as, schools and the
workplace; these teach individuals how to behave in and navigate
these systems. Media contributes to socialization by inundating us
with messages about norms and expectations. For example, schools
socialize children into behaviors such as practicing teamwork,
