The problem has been rampant in developing the world. However, developed nationsare still struggling to bring equity between the two genders. Discrimination against women hastaken a toll on many countries. The Social Institutions and Gender Index (2005) providedshocking results on its research. Out of 121 nations covered, women in eighty-six countriesexperienced one form of discrimination. Most of the countries, which experienced thediscrimination, recorded weak economic growth ranging from increased maternal mortality,unemployment, poor education for the girl child and forced labor among the women. (Life andStyle). It highlights the negative effects of discrimination against women in the society.This trend is not good for any nation. Despite the fact that some may believe that men arethe principal breadwinners and hence should earn more money to satisfy their role, I find sucharguments unsatisfactory since women too have a vital role to play in the development of thesociety. Researchers have shown that discrimination against women results in early marriagesamong young girls since the community believes that such girls have a role in satisfying theurges of men.
