Muhammad Moore answered a knock on the door of his Virginia home
that he was expecting.
The Spotsylvania Sheriff's Office didn't get a warm reception from the man when they went to the house to check on the family. Moore "became evasive" as the officers spoke to him, NBC Washington reports.
The deputies soon found out why Moore was trying to get rid of them when they saw three people running for their lives towards them.
An eight-year-old and 11-year-old child ran out of the side door of the house with a 32-year-old woman, all of them trying to make it to safety from the brutal life they were trapped in by Moore.
The 43-year-old man had been holding his children and girlfriend captive inside the home for two-years.
Every window in the house was covered with a blanket, hiding the terrifying truth about what was happening to the family.

Sheriff Roger Harris gave urged residents to notify police if something seems strange to them:
"One phone call could make a major difference in someones life."
NBC12 reports Moore, who was unemployed, rarely left the home and the children never attended a school.
The woman is in stable condition following treatment for a medical condition that went untreated for years while she was locked away.
The children also received treatment, and are now in the care of family members.
No missing persons reports were ever filed for the three that were locked away against their will by Moore.
Moore was charged with three felony counts of abduction and felony assault and battery. He is being held without bond.
