In Rationalia all the policies and decisions are based on scientific evidence. The goal of Rationalia is in the name itself: a society where people are taught and encouraged to be rational people and thinkers. They want their citizens to be given the opportunity to exercise their freedom and liberty as much as possible. One thing I found interesting about Tyson’s proposal was the idea of rejecting newscasters’ stories as facts. Instead people will see them as opinions. I found this to be important because I have seen that at times news reporters can be biased, they will focus on some things instead of the whole picture. Or they simply want to manipulate the audience to think the same way as them. Another aspect of Rationalia I found interesting was the idea where you simply have to give reasoning behind any proposal. When you give reasoning for a proposal it will be considered and researched extensively. It sounds pretty simple and is something that can be very beneficial, especially for topics that are considered controversial such as vaccines or abortions. Some people are pro-life, some people are anti-vax. If there ever came a time where people wanted to ban abortion and/or vaccines doing scientific research to conclude what is better for the society’s health and wellbeing will definitely aid in maintaining their goal of having a rational society with rational thinking citizens. The idea of Rationalia to me is a good one. However, I believe that the two aspects I’ve mentioned are things we should push forward into our already existing society and make into a reality.  Although, Tyson didn’t talk about religion much in his proposal he did say that citizens were free to practice religion as they felt. To many people religion is something that is based on faith and spirituality of course rather than scientific evidence. Stephen Gould raises the question whether a person can believe in God and evolution in his article “Nonoverlapping Magisteria.” He talks about the concept of “NOMA” This concept raises awareness to the idea that religion and science exist simultaneously because they are two separate systems, dealing with two separate things. Religion focuses on faith and gives people a sense of hope and meaning. It’s something people cherish in their lives. While science on the other hand focuses data and finding explanations to things. Second Post : Reflection on “Rationalia” by Neil Degrasse Tyson is a very interest read in these times. His major point is with such a massive on line structure the world would be better off if it had a virtual country with on line constitution called “Rationalia”. He went on and stated, “all policy shall be based on the weight of evidence.” He announced this idea by tweet and it instantly sparked a debate not only on social media but leading editorials wrote stories on the same issue debunking idea rebutting that it was a horrible idea. Neil Degrasse Tyson is one not to back down and supported his stance. His critics questioned where the country would get its moral and ethical structure. Mr.Tyson response was frank and direct which was most major countries don’t have moral or ethics in their laws governing their country. He further discussed that policy could become laws resolving differences with proper information which could be supported by data. By doing this you could solve problems in a timely manner and move on other issues. A number of areas I found to be problematic. One such issue is the fact that the examples of citizens who could possibly be citizens which were given were all intellectuals with persons with a masters degree and above. The question I want to ask to be part of this proposed virtual society, do you need to be of superior intellect or can an average Joe be part of it? Another issue I had with Neil proposed society is his way of solving problems he brought forward that issues could be debated within 5 minutes and the resolution made in 5 minutes. If no answer is made within that time span both parties are properly wrong. The issue I have with this they are some questions which are still not answered. This is popularly known as the grey area. How many stars are in the sky? No one knows the exact figure but what we can do is give an educated guess. There are many issues which are not clear cut with definite answers. One of the greatest questions asked is, are we as humans made by god or did we evolve over millions of years. Stephen Joy Gould work”Nonoverlapping Magisteria” takes a close look at this topic. What I took away is that there is no correct answer to this question of evolution versus creation just educated guesses I feel this way because they are no clear cut answers none could be completely refuted as being wrong based on evidence. I need to give Feedback to the above 2 posts in 200 words each. The above two posts are based on the LINKS  that I provided.
