As a student,
after fall break, the one thing on my mind is winter break. For me,
winter break is full of family, holiday parties, and happiness. It
is a great time to relax and catch up on sleep, hang out with
friends and family, and celebrate Christmas and the New Year. Going
into winter break I look forward to
familytraditions
and the happy feeling of the holidays.
The best feeling in the world is being let out of school for
a two week break. As I walk out of the school into the bright,
crisp snow I say, See you next year! to my friends, my warm
breath trailing in the cold air. When I get home I throw all my
stuff down and collapse on the floor, breathing a sigh of relief.

We are not the
type of family to throw random ornaments on our tree, like the ones
kids make in elementary school, we go all out. I would say our tree
is more like something you would see in a home design catalog. We
have hundreds of ornaments we use to try and make the tree look
different every year. Under the tree we have the village. It has
a couple of light-up buildings including a museum, a rangers
station, a ski lodge, and even an ice rink, along with a dozen
little figurines. The village is my pride and joy and one of my
favorite parts of the holiday season. One year I cried because my
mom set it up without me.
One of my favorite traditions is cookie baking day. All of my
moms sisters and all of my cousins get together at one of my
aunts houses and we all bake dozens upon dozens of cookies. We all
wear ugly
Christmassweaters and fuzzy socks. By the time we are done
baking, the whole house smells delicious and everyone each has
about twenty dozen cookies of all different kinds.
On
Christmas
Evemy parents and I go to church to attend the Candle Light
Vigil. At the end of the service a flame is passed around till
everyones candle is lit and we all sing Silent Night. It is a
beautiful sight to see the warm glow from the candle light on
peoples faces, while singing such a compelling and peaceful song.
I love attending this service every year, for me it is a great
reminder of the true meaning
