Protective equipment and garments are worn whenever handling chemotherapy agents. Two pair of gloves are worn and a disposable gown. At times respirators are used when inhalation is possible and eye and face protection is worn if splashing is possible. There is a container inside the room to dispose of PPE gear. A chemotherapy precaution sign is placed on the patients door making healthcare workers aware. All hazardous material is placed in a hazardous bag and disposed of properly. There is a special container that is used for disposing of chemotherapy agents. An improvement that I would make at my healthcare facility is having a special place just for chemotherapy agents.
