Lifelong
professional development is a cornerstone component of nursing
practice, and as such, early integration of professional
development habits and strategies is key to excellence in nursing
practice. In this paper, I will reflect on my own professional
development, explore my role as a mentor, apply
Albert
Banduras nursing theory to my practice, and set future goals.
Professional Reflection Paper
I have experience significant growth and increased awareness
regarding professional development this semester and over the past
three years. The decision to enter nursing school was not one that
I was fully confident in when I started out, but what I have
realized is that at the very least the skills and ways of thinking
I have learned will serve me well should I ever decide to pursue
another career path. On reflection, it is heartening to see how far
I have come (see Appendix B).
Mentorship Experience
My experience working with my first-year buddy was more
stressful than I had anticipated it would be. I had expectations of
the relationship based on my buddy experience in semester five that
were not even remotely close to my experience in this course,
namely, that my buddy would be enthusiastic and easy to engage
through the process. Ultimately, I found that I had very little
contact with my first-year student and my role did
show more content
After a long
period of silence in an effort to solicit a reply, I ccd both of
our instructors in an email to my buddy. The email took upwards of
half an hour to compose, as I did not want to come across
overbearing or righteous, however when I finally closed out of the
email I found that she had replied to a previously unanswered
email. While I dont regret escalating issues as needed, next time
I will solicit more than one means of contacting my buddy so that I
can explore other avenues of communication
